The problem is that many of these enterprising individuals are not associated with tour operators and therefore it can be difficult to judge their integrity. Leap Local enables travelers to give something back to the local communities they visit when abroad, with a particular focus on poorer regions of the world. Many Lesser Dev eloped Countries face high rates of poverty, many with over half the population living on less than US$1 per day. Although tourism is a huge potential source of revenue for these countries, as much as 90% of money spent by tourists can leak back to Westernised countries. With your help, enterprising Locals can engage with tourism direct.
We are a rapidly developing organisation positioned to address the neglect of local communities by established tourism. We are working with tour operators and local communities in lesser developed countries. Our initial programme is operating in Peru, the most popular traveller destination in Latin America yet with 49% of the population living below the poverty rate of under $1 per day. We also offer volunteering opportunities so you can work with local communities to improve their amenities.
