Description:
Juan is a local of Patakancha and a cook for a Cusco agency. He is often free in low season (and sometimes high season) to guide you to Lares and other routes from Patakancha. His wife Elena is an expert weaver, making fine hand-woven blankets, scarves, belts, etc. He has learnt French by talking to guides and tourists and then studying the language. He is a local leader, very interesting about his culture and all sorts of subjects and also friendly. He is now also offering pleasant but rustic homestay accomodation with hot shower for $12 a night including full board. He just has one twin room and one matrimonial room (see photo of his brother Marcelino Yupanki's room) but other people nearby have similar rooms if you are a bigger group. Highly recommended as a chance to experience the local culture.
