Naomi Piperoglou spent a whole day with Mario Americo.
Description
We went to Anta, about 30km? from Cusco, to watch cheese being made at the home of a local farmer. But first we walked across the valley thru fields of pasture, corn, potatoes, etc and thru all the animals to the beginning of the next mountain range,to swim (bathe really) in a cascading waterfall . It was probably 3 or 4h nice hike one way mostly level. We walked back and watched a few gallons of milk being turned into cheese on a table in the balk yard by the farmers wife. The kitchen had the tradicional horno and smoke blackened walls. There is also a proper cheese factory in town, which Mario says makes cheese every day - we did not see this.
Best bits: The hike and the cheese
Worst bits: none
