Inappropriate / Inaccurate? Lorenzo Yupanki

Description:

Homestay project, one of several rooms in Patakancha with different families. Food is provided. There is gas-powered hot shower and a flush toilet next to the room (not ensuite), which is very rustic but pleasant.

Marcelino is an interesting chap who speaks Spanish, though his native tongue is Quechua. His wife speaks less Spanish. They have one young son. This is a unique chance to have an insight into the lives of campesinos in the high Andes. The altitude is at least 4000m so take warm clothes and try to acclimatise at lower altitudes first if you have time. A bag of coca to chew and to offer to the people there can be bought in Ollantaytambo and is a great idea. You could also take fruit and bread to offer to the children (rather than sweets).

Price includes Breakfast, lunch, and dinner prepared by cooks trained to cook for tourists on the Inca trail. 15 soles for each bed and 4 to 6 soles for meals.

Description

I just met Loernzo and saw the room, didnt stay there, but it is similar to Marcelino's Yupanki's room which I took a photo of... very pleasant.

Best bits: good view of landscape and culture!
Worst bits: cold!
