Inappropriate / Inaccurate? Marianna and Rennee Coyaguillo Quishpe

Description:

Renee and his family, (wife, Marianna and 10yr old daughter, Sophia) live in the small cloud forest community of Las Tolas, nr. Pacto, approx. 3hrs away from Quito on the bus. The community is made up of around 40 families, most of whom live in wooden houses perched in a line along a mountain ridge.
Unlike most popular tourist destinations in this area, there is still plenty of primary forest around Las Tolas.

The family use materials from the cloud forest to make jewelry, sculpture and crafts. This enables them to make an income from the forest without cutting it down or damaging its biodiversity by planting other crops.

Accommodation is available three purpose built rooms in the family home, equipped with bunk beds, mattresses, bedding and fantastic views over the valley. Shower facility is available.

Besides from helping to make jewellry and learning about the plants the materials come from you can:

+Go on guided walks through the cloud-forest with trained local guides

+Walk to waterfalls deep in the forest and swim

+Learn about medicinal plants and local remedies with Marianna, who cultivates them.

+Hire horses from the neighbors and ride up high on the mountain ridge

+Participate in other aspects of village life, inc. milking cows, cooking and playing volleyball.

+Go bird watching.

How long does is take?

+ Minimum stay is 2 nights, as the bus arrives in the evening and leaves early in the morning.

Who it's appropriate for...

+ Anyone at all who is willing to get involved.
