Inappropriate / Inaccurate? Lyngen Alps Guides Bureau
Description:
The Lyngen Alps are a peninsular in north Norway with outstanding skiing. First made famous by Seth Morrison's illegal heliski video, the area is beginning to reach public conciousness - even the Guardian ran a feature on skiing there! Such is the interest that there is a threat for commercialisation to what is currently a national park, with no motorised transport permitted. Access to the stunning ski fields are by ski tour only. A lot of locals obviously welcome increased commercialisaiton; the area has an economy based on fishing nad manufacturing, so is not wealthy. In response to this, and in order to try to keep the area's park status while proving it can be commercially viable, the local guides have created a guides bureau to encourage tourists to come ski touring safely in Lyngen.
