How can I possibly sum up a once-in-a-lifetime experience in just a few short paragraphs?

Mother Earth Tours took excellent care of our group and Aly Amaut was a fantastic tour guide! Aly has a passion for his heritage and it was enjoyable learning about the history, geography, flora and fauna of the Sacred Valley, Ollantaytambo, the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu. I appreciated his philosophy of “don’t race to the next campsite, enjoy the trek along the way”. It felt like we were the only group on the Inca Trail instead of a bunch of tourists. Aly’s enthusiasm was infectious beginning each leg of the trek with “Let’s rock and roll!”, offering encouraging words along the way, and congratulating each person with a “good job” and high-five handshake as they arrived to every pit stop.

I can’t forget to mention the food we were served on the Trail. Aly’s team at Mother Earth Tours fed us like we were kings! The food was very tasty and I never left the table feeling like I was still hungry. We were also spoiled with some wonderful desserts.

Aly is more than just an amazing tour guide. I feel like I have a great friend from Peru. I would not hesitate to recommend Aly Amaut and Mother Earth Tours! I just may have to go back to Peru again.

Thank you, Aly!

Aly has genuine interest in his culture and his country. Aly develops his employees. Many start as porters and are now working as guides as Aly has encourged and supported them throughout their training in English and
Guiding. Aly is in business development for all Peruvians. He has chosen an elementary school and community that is in great need to benefit from his voluntourism efforts. Aly speaks proudly of his ancestry and culture.

Description

Aly Almaut Ponce de Leon and his dedicated team at Mother Earth manage to balance the perfect amount of adventure, laughter and discovery in every tour.

A history lesson as you climb the ruins of Ollantaytambo, Pisac or Machu Picchu takes on greater importance coming from a native Peruvian with a local point of view, verses the bias of the typical history book from grade school – the book about conquistadors “discovering” the Americas and Hiram Bingham “discovering” or “rediscovering” Machu Picchu – which Aly will tell you was never lost in the first place.

Aly is the cool teacher. He is the bag of coca leaves, the rock star of Machu Picchu that all the other guides go out of their way to greet with admiration and joy. You feel lucky to be on his tour. Other tourists look longingly at you and some even ask if they can tag along – but they aren’t permitted. The cool teacher is all yours.

Never condescending – if you hate to be overly encouraged or rooted for as you struggle upward and onward, don’t worry. Aly seems to know when to stop on an uphill and offer up something interesting and distracting as your lungs look for oxygen. When he congratulates you with a high-five, there is a twinkle in his eye.

His respect for the environment and the local people is shared by his entire team. As I feasted in the dining tent, I noted the Mother Earth chef hand a hearty bowl of soup to an elderly local lady passing by. Aly encourages the porters he uses on the Inca trail to continue their education, to learn other languages, and helps them achieve this. In turn these young men help children and their communities.

Mother Earth Tours is genuinely responsible.

List of what I did on tour:
-Ollantaytambo
-Pisac
-chicha tasting
-playing the Peruvian game Sapo at a bar
-Machu Picchu
-visit to local Sacred Valley school in Chitapampa and Mother Earth’s volunteer project there
-traditional food, including cuy
-Shaman ritual

Best bits: Dining on guinea pig that had been marinated for a couple of days at Aly's mom's house.
Worst bits: I had been travelling off the beaten path in Peru for a couple of weeks before Aly's tour. This was my second trip to Peru and once again I ended up with some pretty dandy stomach woes So, the worst bits have nothing to do with Aly or Mother Earth - they in fact were great about me and my worst bits!

Hiked the Inca Trail and visited Macchu Picchu.

Best bits: Aly was an excellent guide throughout our 4 day Inca Trail tour. I couldn`t have asked for a more knowledgable, thoughtful, enthusiastic and interesting guide. He made sure to get to know each one of us in the group and always took care of us and after particulary hard parts of the hike he was always there to greet us with a hug or a Hi 5!! He provided so much interesting information about the history if the Inca, the flora and fauna and I learnt much more about the Andean culture and religon which is very much alive for Aly in his daily life. Apart from Aly, other best bits included the tents - nice and new, the food - 5 star for me, the porters - they were amazing and of course the beautiful scenery.
Worst bits: No bad bits.... luckily our group all bonded well... also thanks to Aly and his friendly personality. We had good weather.... really can´t complain about anything. It was the highlight of my trip to Peru and Aly was the best guide.

We hiked the Inca trail to Machu Picchu with aly as our guide. He is highly knowledgeable on the local flora, fauna and rich history. Aly has a very personal connection to this trail, with his proud Inca heritage. Aly is concerned with the welfare of his clients, ensuring that we all made it to the end of the trail safely despite the challenging altitude. Aly has a deep respect for pachamama and does his best to ensure that the footprint we leave on the trail is minimal. He's also a lovely guy to share a beer with!

Description

I actually met Aly when he was my group's guide on an Inca Trail/Sacred Valley tour I booked through GAP Adventures in 2008. He was working on opening Mother Earth Tours then, and it's great to see that that plan has come into fruition. Aly was a truly excellent guide. He provided our group with rich information about the local people, indigenous culture, local flora and fauna, and history of the Inca trail and various people to live in the Sacred Valley over the centuries. And he did this all while being a fun, friendly person to be around for the 5-6 days of the tour (important when you're sharing close living quarters with strangers!). He knows everyone in the business along the trail and in Cusco, and really went the extra mile to make our group's trip really special. There are many options out there to trek to Macchu Picchu, but if you want to do more than "walk the walk" and actually take in some of the rich cultural and historical significance of the place, you will not be disappointed having Aly as your guide. He's a true local who will teach you things you would not learn on a "canned" tour, and will make sure you have fun while you're doing it, too!

Best bits: knowledge of the history, culture, and people of Cusco and the Sacred Valley
Worst bits: none, other than the thunderstorms we had to hike through!

Description

Our trip started in Cuzco Peru & meeting Aly Amut Ponce de Leon at our hotel. There were 10 of us in our group, and under the expert care and guidance of Aly, we had an exceptionally well-run, safe and interesting experience in Peru. After a couple of days getting used to the altitude, sightseeing and enjoying the local restaurants, we started on our amazing adventure of hiking the Inca Trail. At every point along the way, Aly was attentive and gracious. His staff of porters and cooks, made our journey a positive life-time experience. I have many great memories and photos to share with my family and friends. Aly's attention to our needs, his awareness of the environmental issues facing the Trail, and his knowledge of the flora and fawna of the area, was awesome. I only wish the very best for Aly and his staff and highly recommend his services to everyone who asks and I never hesitate to recommend him to others who have shown an interest in visiting Peru.

Best bits: Waking up at dawn and realizing that I'm just a few hours left to reaching Machu Picchu!
Worst bits: Washroom at one of the camp sites (no fault of the camp site other than not having enough staff to clean it)

Description

Spent 16 days in Peru with Aly including the Inca Trail. Our guide (Aly) was absolutely fantastic-- he was there to help from the moment we stepped off of the plane in Lima and right through the trip until we got back on the plane in Lima-- he was very helpful in terms of explanations ,answering our many questions, helping us to feel at home in Peru, and with our poor Spanish; he was also a good ambassador for Peru , and for its' people and was very good at explaining about Peru's wonderful Inca past. we really appreciated all of his dedication to being the best possible guide, and in the end a good friend. --THANK YOU ALY!

Best bits: Overall I was amazed at how well planned the trip was and what careful attention Aly paid to all of us for the entire trip -- we were very well looked after and that was appreciated by all! Note at Ist you do not realize the effort that Aly put into all of this --only by the end of the trip did I fully realize how attentive he was and how well organized everything was. This is why I will tell everyone that Mother Earth Tours is a great tour company that cares about its guests!
Worst bits: No bad bits --everything was terrific!
