Activities available... Pakarinan is a network of community tourism projects in southern Ecuador. Pakarinan can put you in touch with local guides in various communities. All proceeds go to the communities directly. Most communities provide accommodation and food, activities include treks, fishing, mountain biking, visits to museums and archaological sites, learning about local medicinal plants and handicrafts, bird watching, visits to hot springs ...and much more.
How long it takes...You can spend as long as you like in the communities but many offer packages of 2-3 days.
Who it's appropriate for...anyone who likes to be outside and want to learn more about traditional communities in Ecuador. Great for families and individuals, walks can be long or very short so you dont need to be super fit.

Description
Visited a local community near Cuenca for the day: ccooked guniea pig, visited a cheese making factory and did a nature walk. Also took a trek in Cajas National Park with Stefan from the Soldados community, spent two days in Chobshi visiting the ancient Canari runis.
Best bits: Learning about the local communities, local scenery
Worst bits: One community was not so ready and we had to wait arund a bit
