Description:
Rakan Mehyar is the co-founder and operations manager of Terhaal, a local Jordanian eco-adventure tour operator that covers all of Jordan, offering: Trekking Cycling and Mountain Biking Canyoning Climbing Desert Tours Camping with Bedouins Horseback Trekking Scuba and Snorkelling Luxury Adventure Tours Culture
Rakan is from Jordan but studied hotel management and restaurant administration at the Cesar Ritz in Switzerland. I wasn't surprised to discover this when every single time I had contact with him, while organizing my mountain bike trip around Jordan, I left the encounter feeling like I'd just been pampered and cared for by a superstar concierge at a swish hotel. Rakan started as a canyon guide in 2004 and then went on to establish Terhaal Adventures in 2008.
There are short day trips to multi-week expeditions available.
Trips range from easy and relaxing to advanced for extreme athletes.
The skilled team at Terhaal supporting the trips are the tops in their fields.

Description
I did a five day private mountain bike trip followed by a nine day group trip with Terhaal.
I contacted Rakan at Terhaal looking to do a group trip, he was running one for a UK tour operator and suggested I join that trip, but as I wanted to go for a longer journey we then added some extra days for me to get over jet lag and do some training. Rakan found an ultimate guide to do this with me - he set me up with Jordan's national cycling record holder and arranged for me to stay in a great hotel in Madaba and do day trips of my chosing on my bike. I went to places such as the Dead Sea and the Unesco world heritage site of Um Ar-Rasas.
I didn't personally meet Rakan. All my dealings with him were by email and facebook. But he arranged everything to perfection. If I expressed concern or didn't think I wanted to do something he'd suggested, he was quick to make changes and did so with great charm and willingness.
Rakan does lead trekking trips and canyoning. I was doing mountain biking. I was incredibly impressed with the members of his team that guided my trips.
Best bits: I've said it in my other reviews - but the people of Jordan are fantastic. They're friendly and helpful. The culture is fascinating and the food makes every calorie burned in the tough terrain, worthwhile.
Worst bits: See my story "Thou Shalt Not Snore" in the WTF section of Leap Local's travel magazine: http://www.leaplocal.org/magazine/wtf-weird-travel-files/thou-shalt-not-snore-jordan-kirsten-koza/
