Inappropriate / Inaccurate? Arturo Usandivares

Description:

Arturo offers to guide you on trails through the local mountains and around the Sacred Valley, on foot, horseback, bicycle, or with the services of a local taxi or minibus. He only uses well-treated horses. There are routes for as many days as you want to go for and for people of all fitnesses. One very popular trail is the Lares Trek through indigenous Andean communities to mountain springs. Another is the route via Santa Teresa to Machu Picchu, which can be combined with a bike ride. He can cook for you and arrange for animals to carry your luggage and the camping equipment if you wish.

Arturo is a Quechua (and Spanish) speaker with an extended knowledge of Andean plants, culture and traditions. His knowledge of natural medicine includes San Pedro and temescal sweat lodge ceremonies, which he can organise and guide you through. He can take you to see weavers in the indigenous communities of Huilloc and Patakancha. He is also familiar with the route through the Pongo featured in Michael Palin's Rim of Fire.

His English is moderately good but not fluent.

Arturo is a local of Ollantaytambo, an idyllic Inka town in the Sacred Valley, where people still live in the houses built by the Inkas to house their astrologers and architects and other important people who lived in the town, a trading point between the jungle down towards Machu Picchu and Cusco.
