Description:
Lida is a multi-talented local, who cooks the Peruvian speciality, guineau pig, and makes hand-crafted dolls. The pig is maybe not everyone´s favourite idea, but for those who didn´t have one as a pet, certainly a treat. No-one can resist the dolls!
She does cuy al horno, which is pig in the oven, and piepen de cuy, which is a pig stew. You see more of the pig with the first! Cuy al Horno costs soles 15 for a half, 25 for a full (about US$5-10).
The dolls are made in various sizes, the largest being about 30cm high. They are made from wood, alpaca wool and accompanied by local animal, such as llamas. Lida sells these to turistas for a much better price than they otherwise get sold in Lima! about soles 30.
Lida invites you into her traditional home, which is a great experience. She´s worked with local NGO´s to understand how to keep tourists happy, so don´t worry if you´re of a delicate disposition.
Go visit her with 24hrs notice to ask for the meal and anytime about the dolls.

Description
As John above, I had the Cuy al Horno for lunch and looked at some of Lida´s dolls. Both her and her daughter Tracy were very patient with my limited Spanish and as a result I learnt a lot while I was there, as well as enjoying my meal!
Best bits: The cuy - tasty. Friendly people. Amusing cat.
Worst bits: I´d agree with John - none.

Comments: John´s description is fine and I found Lida´s house with no problems. All I´d add is that Lida works incredibly hard to support her children, who are studying in Cusco to eventually work in tourism. They greatly appreciate tourists popping in, so do get in touch with her if you´re in Ollantaytambo.
